Trailing Kahunira- Nature’s Therapy

Getting Lost in Githunguri’s Kahunira Trails.

Nature Trail is one of the most fundamental getaway activities one could want, just to wind down and have a beautiful weekend after a very tiresome week. But a trail with Pulse Havens Group would make it better- be ready for exciting road trip coupled with laughter, games and friendly interactions.

If you ever want a day in the nature’s most breath-taking beginner experience, Kahunira Falls is your destination. Stepping out of the city would do you good if your destination is just about 50 kilometres- a day’s trip doesn’t have to be a long one especially when you want to experience at least 5‑hour long nature trail and waterfall chase.

The adventure highlights

  • Hike: Moderate
  • Location- Githunguri, Distance: 10km.
  • Waterfalls
  • Forest Trails
  • High Pipes crossing
  • Duff Mpararo (Swimming in the falls)

A rainy Sunday morning of 6th April 2025 would mark just our second trip as Pulse Havens Tours, but the first in Githunguri based Kahunira Falls. Maybe the weather was an indication of a successful day in prospect- for the day ahead would be filled with exciting undertakings, which would be etched in the memories of adventurers, present or otherwise.

It is universally agreed that a tour organiser’s greatest nightmare is time keeping. Tell me why a 7.00 a.m. scheduled departure from Nairobi would be extended by two hours and more, Grace Murigi’s lateness or missing at all, to blame- it was until just after 9 a.m. that we decided to proceed, living her behind.

Now, a good road-trip needs good music playlist and Elijah did this perfectly. Perhaps that’s why we almost missed the final turn- soothing music has that effect on people. Even better, every music request was honored, including Abuya’s request of Def Rebel, specifically Jey Uso’s Main Event-ish.

The trail was rather moderate (Your fitness journey doesn’t necessarily need gym. Pulse Havens Group is here to help you out). The first hour would see a long trail towards the first high pipes, ten (10) meters above the ground. Believe us when we talk about breath-taking adventures. This specific one was so breathtaking our photographer decided to take pictures from below the pipes, just a few inches from the flowing rivers. (He did not fall, he just could not defy the law of gravity).

The first waterfall was calling us in full names and the least we could do is respond. Swimming is an option…but this needs swimmers. People like Ian and Gerald could not move in the deep waters. Understand the breeze was too cool we found ourselves enjoying the view and the waters for almost eternity. This was the case for the second waterfall and the third…. Due to floods, we could not visit the fourth one.

A beautiful mistake is spending two hours in a waterfall before figuring out how to climb a hill. Good climbing gears is very much needed if you don’t want to end up like Were, our photographer. Free fall was ideally discovered in his favor.

The adventurous day would end with the group enjoying delicious meal, telling the best of stories and appreciating each other’s company. We would then be Nairobi-bound.
