Sovereignty Under Threat as ‘Big Brother’ Role ends in Maduro’s Capture

USA Defies Sovereignty, Captures Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro

Sovereignty is not as brazen as International Community depicts it, sole dependency is on goodwill of actors to abide. The looming war between the left-wing and right-wing ideological blocs continue to get deeper; Venezuela being the most recent casualty.

Venezuela is leaderless; not laughable though but alarming. Head of State getting arrested by a foreign power, with soldiers understandably not fighting back is just hilarious. What happened to non-interference as one of the International Law’s guiding principle? S o much for believing in Sovereignty.

I’ve read the Treaty of Westphalia over and over again. Maybe more than I should but I haven’t seen Statehood system justifying imperialism. If anything, a series of treaties leading to the Peace of Westphalia demand for more of irridentism. This does not at any point tell the entire story of the Western war, with a little of Eastern European involvement.

The world has however seen a little of world leaders preserving peace. For starters, human egocentric nature as believed by Realists. It is not the first time a Western power interfere with affairs of a territory that has nothing to do with them. I mean African and Asian Colonization could not be a joke. But this is about Venezuela. So let’s make it more about the Caribbean oil reservoir.

USA had no business attacking Venezuela’s sovereignty. USA has no business at all meddling into the affairs of any other country at all. I mean is this not what world peace is about? Speaking about better lives for the citizens of Venezuela is understandable but openly talking bout selling their oil only sends one message- USA’s capture of Nicolas Maduro was not about promoting respect for human rights but to set hands on the rich oil deposits.

This is more like a calculated imperialism. Perhaps that’s why even the US Congress is divided on whether to support the move, or condemn it as an act of aggression, just like Russian President Vladimir Putin did. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is among US leaders who condemned Trump’s ‘unilateral’ actions terming it as rank imperialism.

“Trump’s attack on Venezuela will make the United States and the world less safe. This brazen violation of international law gives a green light to any nation on earth that may wish to attack another country to seize their resources or change their governments.”

Senator Bernie Sanders

USA sets a very bad precedence. That any Head of State would decide to attack and topple any government they approve not of he leadership for non-cooperation. The foundation of USA is Democracy, respect of the law (this should apply to International Law too) and freedom. The leadership has since gone against that, to an extreme point of wanting to direct the fairs of a power they are not part of.

This is however not new. Someone would ask why this has happened in the Middle East too (Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait) and even Africa (Libya). The attacked states have since been left more devastated that they were before attack, highlighting the greed of the ‘Big Brother’ USA.

The International Community must be worried. Is this part of the world peace that formed part of a discussion leading to signing of the United Nations Charter in 1945? The truth is, the current world is more threatened than before.
